Moving your website to Semper Stat

What we need from you, what we do, and how long the whole thing takes. In most cases you will not need to touch anything after the first form.

Updated 2 August 2026 7 minute read Applies to all plans

Every plan includes a free, hands-on migration. You fill in one form; we copy the site, stand it up on our hardware behind a temporary address, and hand it back for you to look at. Nothing changes for your visitors until you approve it.

1. Tell us what to move

Open the migration request in your control panel, or reply to your welcome email with the domain name. We ask for three things: the domain, your current host, and a login with permission to read the files and the database.

If your site was built by an agency who no longer answers, say so on the form. We have a slower route that works from a public crawl and a DNS record, and it has rescued more sites than we would like to admit.

2. What we copy

We take the whole document root, the database, your cron jobs and your existing redirects. Email is a separate step and we schedule it apart from the website so nothing is in flight at once.

  • All website files, permissions preserved
  • Databases, with users and grants recreated
  • Scheduled tasks and their environments
  • Redirect and rewrite rules
  • SSL — reissued free, no need to move a certificate

3. Reviewing the staging site

We send you a temporary address that serves the migrated site from our servers. Click through the pages that matter to your business — the contact form, the booking page, the shop checkout — and tell us what looks wrong.

Common things to check

  • Forms actually send, and the notification arrives
  • Payment or booking integrations still authenticate
  • Any hard-coded links to your old host's address
  • Images loaded from a plugin's cache directory

"Nothing changes for your visitors until you say the word. That is the only promise that matters during a move."

4. The switch

When you approve, we lower the DNS time-to-live, wait for it to propagate, then repoint the records. Both copies of the site stay live during the changeover, so a visitor lands on one or the other — never on nothing.

We keep your old host's copy reachable for fourteen days in case something surfaces late. After that, cancel your old account — and do check that it is cancelled, because we cannot do that part for you.

5. If something goes wrong

Reply to the migration thread. It stays open for thirty days and it reaches the same engineer who did the move, not a general queue. Out of hours, a migration issue counts as urgent and pages the on-call rota.
